Today's bioenergy systems are frequently characterised by limited conversion efficiency and dependencies on few species of energy crops leading to low biodiversityin plant production. With the aim to improve the ecological performance of biomass production and processing and to convert a wider spectrum of biomass resources, the integrated generation of solid fuel and biogas from biomass (IFBB) was developed. Its core element is the mechanical separation of the wet conserved biomass into a solid fuel for combustion and a liquid for anaerobic digestion with subsequent production of heat and electricity from the biogas. This study investigated biological and chemical parameters of the IFBB process. Furthermore, life cycle assessment was conducted to evaluate the overall energy efficiency as well as saving potentials of fossil primary energy and emissions of greenhouse gases of the IFBB process along the entire process chain.

Every day, we come across food, vegetable wastes and other organic wastes that have huge potential to uplift the society in a better way, when these are transformed into useful bioenergy. To produce bioenergy from biomass one of the better options is to utilize these potential wastes to transform it into biogas. Today, the entire world is looking for different alternative fuels. Biogas is one of the good alternative fuels, energy rich and is well suited as domestic fuel, for heating purposes and power generation. The sources available for the production of biogas are fruit, vegetable wastes and agricultural residues. Biogas from such solid wastes primarily constitutes of methane, carbon dioxide and other trace gases. It is a clean fuel with a calorific value between 5000 to 5500 kcal/kg. There are two methods available for the production of biogas from organic wastes (Dry and Wet Processes). The dry processes include combustion and pyrolysis, whereas the wet processes include anaerobic digestion, gasification and fermentation. This book will be especially useful for Chemical, Mechanical & Agricultural Engineers.

The parameters, such as plant height, number of tillers per meter square, number of leaf per tiller, leaf area index, dry matter yield, yield attributes and yield of upland rice were observed highest in chemically fertilized treatment. The highest grain yield (2.337 Mg ha-1) from chemical fertilizer application was at par with fresh and decomposed biogas effluent, yielding 2.189 Mg ha-1 and 2.050 Mg ha-1 grain respectively. The gross return (Rs. 47.43 thousand ha-1) and net return (Rs. 25.00 thousand ha-1) were highest in chemical fertilizer. The benefit-cost ratio (BCR) was the highest (2.28) in fresh biogas effluent, which was almost similar to decomposed biogas effluent (2.18) and chemical fertilizer (2.11). The organic matter content (2.716 %), available phosphorus (42.86 kg ha-1), and available potassium (46.49 kg ha-1) were significantly higher in fresh biogas effluent than the other and that were at par with decomposed biogas effluent. The total nitrogen content was the highest (0.1353 %) in decomposed biogas effluent and was statistically at par with the rest of the treatments.
