The book Analysis of a Commercial Thermophilic Biogas Plant is a product of a research that identified biodegradable waste materials like domestic/municipal effluence as economically viable alternative source of energy. The proposed Commercial biogas plant was mathematically modeled for urban area clean energy requirement. The capacity of the plant was estimated for a given cycle of operation. A nominal 1500m3 power gas plant was studied characteristically and its performance efficiency evaluated. It was observed that the rate of biogas production is a function of the reactor temperature, pH, substrate concentration, rate of degradation of biomass, and the accumulation of matter in the system due to bacteria growth.

The technical and economic research is to develop the concept of the biogas plant using by-products and wastewater from production in the factories based on the processing of sugar beet. And also the exact technological aspects of the biogas plant were presented. The subject of study on working biogas plant was carried out on the basic information from some of a Polish Sugar Plant and fulfilled by literature. Industrial assumptions are presented, such as raw materials for biogas production, currently owned technical infrastructure and land development. The concept of biogas plant installation with division into individual objects is presented. The purpose of this article was to develop the economic analysis for biogas plant working at sugar factory and to show the energy balances and material and then calculated the main economic indicators such as Cash Flow (CF), Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Discounted Payback Period (DPP). It was found that the biogas plant operating at a sugar factory can be a profitable investment and DPP amounted to 4 years. However, these results are estimates and in reality they may changed.

The transformation of the power supply towards renewable energy (RE) sources will depend on a large scale of fluctuating RE sources, primarily of wind energy and photovoltaics. However, the variable power generation of these renewable sources will lead to an increased need of flexible power producers in order to balance differences between energy generation and consumption. Among the different types of RE sources, biogas plants have the advantage that their input biomass and the produced biogas can be stored and electricity can consequently be generated on demand. Since electricity from biogas has not been used to balance fluctuations of intermittent RE in the past, new concepts are required. These concepts should be able to meet the requirements of highly renewable electricity systems and to supply biogas according to the varying demand for long-and short-term balance power generation. In this regard, this thesis focused on the identification of biogas plant concepts for flexible power generation, as well as on ranking them regarding their economic and life cycle performance.

Management of organic waste is one among the most pressing environmental issues in most urban and semi-urban areas of the developing world. Unscientific land filling of municipal solid wastes is one of the important causes for environmental degradation and in a big way contribute to global warming. Under this scenario, conversion of domestic organic waste into a green fuel, using biogas technology has a huge scope for mitigation of Green House Gas emissions. Like the conventional biogas plants, the portable biogas plants were not so far studied and evaluated extensively. Considering the high relevance of the portable domestic biogas plants, four types of portable biogas plants viz. Floating gas holder type without water seal, Floating gas holder type with water seal, Fixed gas holder type and KAU Portable split biogas plant were evaluated in the present study. The KAU Portable split biogas plant, exhibited superior performance with the other biogas plants used in the study. The kitchen waste had a biogas production potential of 58 L/L and 989.05 L/kgTS of organic wastes.

The present work is a study of possibilities in producing biogas from sugar beet pulp. The sugar beet pulp is a relative efficient substrate. Biogas yield obtained from it reaches 584 m3/ ton of oDM. Moreover, the methane content in biogas ranges from 50 to 55%. This guideline is based on sugar factory located in Poland. The above mentioned factory plan to use their own by- products, which are sugar beet pulp, beet roots and molasses. The biogas plant is to have capacity of 1.55 MW. Very important factors in present study are economical issues. In order to build a plant it is needed to calculate foundations, materials, miscellaneous and engineering costs. Overall cost of biogas plant is about 5 mln Euros. Annual expenses, outcomes and incomes are calculated in present study. The main reason of biogas plant is producing and selling thermal and electric energy. In case of building such a big undertaking a bank loan can be needed. The bank loan is explained on this example. Total sums of loans and bank interests as well as the investment payback time are presented in this book.
